How Microneedling Therapy Works

Microneedling Therapy, or skin needling, is based on the use of multiple tiny needles, less than 0.25mm each in diameter, to create multiple tiny holes in the skin. The healing process of skin injuries stimulates production of collagen and elastin. The new collagen formed is tighter with less wrinkling and softer scars.

The improvement can take two to three months to produce visible results, however some clients have noticeable changes after few days. Everyone heals different and depends on the depth of the skin defects produced. The results and the time it takes vary with each client and you may see mild redness.

The skin rejuvenation and improvement is enhanced by applying topical gels (Hyaluronic Acid), serums (PRP – Platelet Rich Plasma), vitamins (C) and absorbable nutrients (Antioxidants).

What Areas Can Be Treated by Microneedling Therapy

Microneedling Therapy can be used all over the body, but the face, neck and chest are the most commonly treated areas. A topical numbing cream is used to minimize pain from the needles. For greater skin improvement, multiple treatments are necessary with 3-6 weeks between each session.

Is Microneedling New?

Microneedling Therapy has been used for decades in Europe in various forms, from blocked stamps to hand rollers to the new automated pens that make the process fast, consistent and for the most part, quite comfortable. Only in recent years have the public and physicians embraced the concept. We have discovered that this simple action of creating a tiny wound without heat or any other high technology works remarkably well.

What Does Microneedling Feel Like?

The Microneedling Therapy device contains a series of very fine, almost hair-thin needles. The high-speed motor causes the needle penetration to occur very quickly which means it will feel more like a sandpaper sensation than needles. Some patients describe it as similar as the feel of a cat’s tongue. Scar treatments require longer needles which invade “nerve space” and thus, produce more sensation.

Micro Pen Microneedling Beverly Hills

Why We Use the Automated Micropen®

  • MicroPen™ is able to deliver apredictable healing experience which is not always possible with lasers or other devices.
  • MicroPen™ uses sterile single-use surgical grade disposable needle tips. There is no potential for cross contamination between patients because there is never a re-use of needles.
  • Adjustable needle penetration depths allows Dr. Fardad Forouzanpour to choose a custom treatment program for your specific skin problems and preferences for treatment aggressiveness.
  • Microneedling Therapy is safe for ALL skin types. This is a boost for skins that have a tendency to over react to heat based treatments or those with ultra sensitive skins which do not tolerate heat treatments well.
  • Dr. Fardad Forouzanpour of the Beverly Hills Cosmetic Surgical Group prefers the cordless MicroPen™ because it allows unrestricted movements to reach all facial areas without the interference of cords or wires.
How Is MicroPen different from Dermal Rollers?

How Is MicroPen different from Dermal Rollers?

Automated microneedling devices move in a vertical direction for better precision when treating the skin. Manual needle rollers do not create a precise vertical action and many of these rollers are made from inferior metals which are not smooth and it is impossible to sterilize them at home. The lack of precision and sterilization issues can contribute to inconsistent effects to the skin, plus the risk of infection when the skin is not antiseptically cleansed.
How Is Micropen Different from Lasers?

How Is Micropen Different from Lasers?

The MicroPen breaks up pigment mechanically instead of with light (heat) and remodels the collagen without heat. Removing heat from the equation makes for a safer, more comfortable treatment with a very low complication rate. No heat also equals less downtime! Most MicroPen™ patients are red for 24 hours or less. That advantage means you can get the procedure performed on a Friday and be back to normal for work on Monday.

After the Microneedling Therapy

You’ll likely look as if you have a sunburn following treatment. This can last the rest of the day, to several days or a week depending on treatment depth.  Treat your skin gently and refrain from acid-containing products for a week or longer. You will be advised by Dr. Fardad Forouzanpour and/or our Beverly Hills Cosmetic Surgical Group team as to the best skin care products and protocol to use following your microneedling therapy procedure.

The Benefits of Microneedling Therapy

The benefits of microneedling therapy are a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, younger-looking skin with fewer signs of aging. It also has a positive effect on hyper-pigmentation, hypo-pigmentation, acne scars, traumatic scars, stretch marks and generally creates a fresher appearance or glow to the skin. The treatment can be performed on all parts of the body: Face, Neck, Décolleté, Arms, Hands, Legs, Abdomen and Back.
